In the past few decades, picture books have become a valuable and sophisticated tool for teaching and learning in the secondary school classroom. Often, picture books tackle serious and/or sensitive issues that are better suited for older students, and even adults.
Picture books offer a visual, safe option for students who are visual learners and for all students who wish to engage in reading about various topics in a meaningful way. When well-integrated into teaching, 'picture fiction' can offer pathways to deeper emotional connections and high order thinking skills for all secondary students.
The titles below are part of the Windsor Library Picture Books Collection. If you are interested in checking out a picture book, please see Mrs. Ottenbreit for help.
